Some key points of my life before effective treatment and meaningful recovery:

  • I was a high school dropout
  • I failed at college at my first attempt
  • I was addicted to various recreational substances
  • I was not to able to complete a community college degree
  • I was so psychotic that it resulted in three involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations (each lasting for 3 or more months)
  • I lost interest in life, hobbies, friendships, relationships, and pursuing goals

Some key points of my life after effective treatment and meaningful recovery:

  • I went back to get a university degree, and thrived with a 4.0 GPA from the time I was a sophomore undergraduate and through the end of graduate school
  • I am featured in major media such as People magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Dr. Drew’s podcasts and live show, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) first-ever book You Are Not Alone, among others
  • I regularly speak and present for Stanford law students at the request of Stanford professors
  • I am on the Board of Directors with the Schizophrenia & Psychosis Action Alliance (S&PAA)
  • I am appointed as commissioner by the two highest courts in Texas to the Texas Judicial Commission on Mental health (JCMH)
  • I serve on the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) with the Texas JCMH
